Description

Some humans would never live to witness the cost of a pact they made with an extra-planar being. When such a being infused their essence within the blood of a human, the effects could stay dormant for generations before finally being expressed in one of that human's descendants. Such a descendant was known as a tiefling.

Tieflings were mostly human, but the imprint of their supernatural ancestry effected their appearance in an eclectic variety of extreme ways: horns of various shapes and numbers; vividly coloured skin and eyes without pupils; razor sharp, crooked teeth, sometimes in several rows; some may even have had a barbed or bovine tail.

It could be horrifying for a human to bear a tiefling child, but even with a mother's love and protection, they were often shunned from their communities. Many humans believed that tieflings would bring bad luck, or that a malicious devilish ancestor would come to collect them, unleashing its minions or destroying the settlement in the process.

Some outcasts would even come to identify more closely with their extra-planar ancestor, seeking to make contact with them or to serve them.

Territory

In the rare cases that a tiefling was embraced by the community into which it was born, one could find tieflings anywhere that humans had settled; that is, near anywhere in Auriin.

More commonly, tieflings were found either living in the slums of larger cities where life was too busy for them to be noticed, or completely detached in the remote wilds.
