Description
Emlys, known by her worshippers as "the mist of death", was an aspect of Lys that embodied the darker side of the spirit of arcana. Her followers were concerned with studying and controlling the release of arcane energy that occurs at the end of a creature's life, and very few cults of Emlys were known to have any reservations in bringing about this end.
Within the folklore of many cultures, it was said that when mist descends on a battlefield or graveyard, this was Emlys reaping the arcane potential from the bodies of the fallen. This may derive from the practice of her followers of using conjured clouds of fog to obscure the heinous and profane acts that they committed in her name.
Appearance
Emlys was often depicted as a feminine humanoid, draped in delicate black robes or a hooden cloak. These depictions usually portrayed the deity as having deathly pale skin, but rarely included details of her face.
Followers of Emlys who claimed to have been visited by her material form reported a feeling of fear, uncertainty, and eldritch horror when attempting to look her in the eyes or to see under the hood of her robes.
A more subtle sign of Emlys' presence or support was the presence and rapid, unseasonal growth of the so-called "corpsefinder mushroom" - a tall, slender, sickly-white fungus with a deep cap and blue-black gills.
